This month’s reading assignment is to read 1Samuel 16. In this chapter Saul is rejected by God as king and David is selected (anointed) to be his replacement.
As you read through this chapter answer the following questions:
- What reason(s) does the bible give for WHY Saul was rejected by God as king?
- What SIGNS can we point to that shows that Saul was rejected by God? (Note: You may need to go back a few chapters to complete your answer.)
- Although God rejected Saul, he remained in position as king. What does it mean for God to reject someone (i.e. a leader) and leave them in position for a time?
- 1Samuel 16:13 contains the record of when David was first anointed king. In what way(s) was his anointing the “similar” to Saul’s anointing, and in what way(s) was his anointing “different from” Saul’s anointing? (For extra credit: list FIVE similarities and FIVE differences between David's and Saul's anointing!)
